Global Climate Change Essay

 Climate Change or Global Warming?

The term climate change is usually referred to the process of global warming. The phrase has been once used by the National Academy of Sciences. Actually, a phrase is referred to the process of 'climate change'. A whole process is being referred to the process of 'global warming'. A whole process is very meaningful since it helps convey many new meanings. These meaning are expressed in the climate change. The most vivid and dangerous change are the rising temperatures.

Climate change is also known to refer to the significant changes in measures of climate. The changes pertain to the issue of temperature, precipitation, or wind. Both of the things have a lasting effect on the nature. As for the climate change, this usually results from the counterplay of many natural factors. (Sisco P., 2006, p.65)

Climate change is reasoned by many things. These include such things as:

  1. natural factors
  2. changes in the sun's intensity
  3. slow changes in the Earth's orbit around the sun
  4. natural processes

There are many processes that are concerned with the climate system. The changes take place in such areas as ocean circulation, human activities and the land surface. Of special importance are the processes of deforestation, reforestation, urbanization, desertification, etc. (Sisco P., 2006, p.55)

Global warming is concerned with an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere and the increase is the Earth's surface and in the troposphere. When combined together, these processes can contribute to changes in global climate patterns. As for the processes of global warming, these can occur from a variety of causes. The causes include the things that are concerned with natural and human factors. As for the process of global warming it can also refer to the warming that can occur as a result of increased emissions. The whole thing is concerned with the greenhouse gases from human activities. (Sisco P., 2006, p.12)

Science is known to exist for the period of 200 years. The whole process was accompanied by the burning of fossil fuels, including coal and oil, and deforestation. When combined together these forces have caused the concentrations of heat-trapping "greenhouse gases". The combination of such thing have a negative effect on the atmosphere. These gases are also known to prevent heat from escaping to space. A whole thing resembles somewhat like the glass panels of a greenhouse. (Wolf K., 2000, p.22)

Greenhouse gases are necessary to life. These are able to keep the planet's surface warmer than it otherwise would be. Also, the concentrations of these gases continues to increase in the atmosphere. As a result, the Earth's temperature is climbing above past levels. This thing has been revealed according to NOAA and NASA data. As for the Earth's average surface temperature this was reported to increase by about 1.2 to 1.4ºF in the last 100 years.

The eight warmest years on the planet have started since 1998. The warmest year in the whole range was the year 2005. (Wolf K., 2000, p.28) As for the most recent changes, these have occurred during the recent decades. The changes come as a result of the human activities. The other important aspect of climate change is the changing of rainfall patterns, snow and ice cover, and sea level. (Massey R., 2000, p. 14)

In the case of the greenhouse gases continue to increase, climate models threaten to predict the change in temperature at the Earth's surface. It means that the temperature could increase from 3.2 to 7.2ºF above 1990 levels.

As for the major part of the scientists, these are certain about the idea that human activities are changing the composition of the atmosphere, thus increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases. When uncontrolled, this concentration threatens to change the planet's climate. People are not sure that much will change. They also do not have a confidence about the possible rate of change as well as the exact effect of this change. (Massey R., 2000, p. 19)
