50/50 Nation: Democratics and Republicans

  1. Democratic Study Group in the 1970’s did highly influence the Congress and its operations imposing its own democracy and therefore democratic leaders to the administration of the Congress. Democrats took most of the chairs in Congress and the majority of people became the followers of this democrats. This may be called the “democratic revolution”. The “Republican revolution” in the United States Congress was to come. It came in the 1994 when the Republican Party took over in the Congress with proceeding interim elections in the House and Senate. This Revolution is known are the Gingrich Revolution as it was lead by Newt Gingrich, with freshman republican representatives under his manipulation. This Gingrich revolution leads to the establishment of the conservative republicans views on the politics. Analyzing both of the changes in Congress in 1970’s and 1990’s it is necessary to say that these are the two “revolutions” that divided the population of the United States into two equal parts with temporary advantages of each of them. All the people who grew up on the democratic influence in the country remained devoted to it and it even reinforced with the changes in Congress in 1994. Back than those who chaired the committees were made to free their chairmanships and started searching new successors. The strategy of leadership of both of the parties lies in constant fight. The nations of the United States became a “50-50 nation” because half of the population become for the republicans and the other half against. There is no real reason to mention names or event that took place after this period. The division of the nation is conditioned by the interests that each of the party supports. The functioning of Congress became like libra with two opposing parties on each of the sides. This converts politics into a great market, where voters are products, which the parties try to buy up. Or in other words this 50-50 barrier is overcome by the parties through “gaining a greater "market share" of the vote”. These two major breakouts in the Congress history made American citizens to occupy the “50-50 position” which nowadays is disputed. For instance Michael Barone in his work “The 49 Percent Nation".

  2. The Supreme Court’s ruling under which congressional districts must be equal in size did certainly have weighty impact on the way they were drawn after the decennial census. This means that in some part of the country there might be fewer voters in one congressional district and more in another district of the same size. The principle “one man, one vote” is the principle known to every single politician and American citizen who is aware of what is going on in the Congressional world – every person has a right to vote. This principle in the first place means that every single citizen of the country is expected and has to vote. Therefore, those people who do not really have strong political beliefs give their vote for the candidate, which is considered to be favorable for his congressional district. This means that every man living in a certain congressional district is expected and will vote for the candidate he is supposed to vote. This does not move the 50-50 positions at all and even more than that – it reinforces it. One man gives his one voice for the candidate and therefore the party he prefers. The votes literally remain the same and the only thing that may change this situation is a mistake, which can be made by the leading party at the moment. Yes, American nation is believed to be a 50-50 nation. Many factors influence it and contribute into it. Nevertheless, it is necessary to take a deep look at the present situation and actually the situation that started in 2002. What is obvious is that America is not a 50-50 nation anymore. It has always been true for the statement that the winner takes all America, but nowadays the equilibrium is lost. Does the “one man, one vote” principle work with the elite or the grassroots class? A question like that may be viewed as something undermining the whole system of American politics. Yes, it certainly does. Every person has a right to vote and it remains solid as iron as long as the American Constitution will live. And that would be forever! No one can say whether it is good or bad that America has become a 50-50 nation throughout the years. Nevertheless, what is really important is that as long as the principle “ one man, one vote” exists a 50-50 nation is more likely to keep on existing, too.

...One of the promotional tools used by the Southwest Airlines was the word “love”. The company originally used it in 1971 in its first advertisement. This word by itself makes every person feel comfortable and protected. So the success of such slogans as: “How do we love you? Let’s count the ways”(1971) and for instance ”We are spreading love”(1977) was great. Every time Southwest Airlines started to fly to a new city it would say for example: “We are spreading love all over Texas” or “We are spreading love to Austin, Corpus” or any other place. The company marked the cities it flew to with hearts n the map. Even the stocks of the company are listed on the Stock Exchange as "LUV”. It is also important to point out that Southwest Airlines did not just do their best in being “different” but also were highly recognized by numerous awards. The recognition of the company’s hard work and success started in 1988 when it became the first airline to win the amazing Triple Crown award - Best On-time Record, Best Baggage Handling, and Fewest Customer Complaints. Southwest Airlines have won it thirty times, with a shocking success of five annual Triple Crowns for 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1996. In addition to that awards the company got an award for Best Customer Service, Best Bonus Promotion, and Best Award Redemption at “Inside Flyer” magazine’s 15th annual Freddie Awards. This company made a tremendous contribution into the commercial airline industry and no other airline has contributed more than that. Southwest Airlines was proud of its achievements and found a way to introduce them to the whole world. One of the brightest examples of advertising the company was the Triple Crown plane, dedicated to the employees of Southwest Airlines for their marvelous achievement of five consecutive annual Triple Crown awards. It was the advertisement of hard work, dedication and keeping promises.

As it was mentioned before the company has made and continues making various innovations that do not only help it to stand out among its competitors but make a weighty contribution into the advancement of the general commercial airline industry. Southwest Airlines introduced such innovations as: ticketless travel, same-day airport cargo delivery, self-service checking kiosks (to reduce the amount of time Southwest Customers spend in line); visually distinctive Winglets (started extending the airplane’s range, saving fuel, lowering engine, maintenance costs, and reducing takeoff noise); online boarding passes via southwest.com (allows the customers to proceed to their departure gate without stopping at the ticket counter, skycap, or self-service kiosk) and many more. Southwest Airlines is a company whose main priority is outstanding service. And shows the best results in “spreading love” all over the United States. It has grown to become one of the largest airlines in America. The message of the advertisement has a lot to do with the respect towards the efforts that people put into working out and going in for sports in order to lose weight. The scales “promise” their owners to provide the stimulus to keep working out by showing the progress that may be not even visible for the person or showed on other scales.
