Sample Argumentative Essay on The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Example of Argumentative essay, Sample Paper

Introduction

The doctrine of human rights is one of the main concepts which are created to protect every single human being not independently from the race, nationality or other differences. Human rights are about human dignity and the fact that no one can take this dignity away or humiliate another human being. Human rights are about the notion that dignity is an inborn “characteristic” of a man and that the inalienable rights for equality are the basis of liberty and justice on the planet in general and each community in particular.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Essay

UDHR

The Universal declaration of human rights was proclaimed and then adopted by the General Assembly resolution 217 A (III) of 10 December 1948. The main priority of the given declaration is to promote a profound respect to the rights and freedoms of each individual belonging to every nationality and create a universal guaranty that will help in the process of monitoring of the recognition of these human rights and freedoms. This is a document which became the point where morality faced law and any violation of human rights started being unacceptable just because “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”[UDHR,Article1]. According to the document’s preamble the recognition of personal dignity and the inalienable right to be treated equally is the necessary base to maintain the freedom and justice of the world.  The declaration is completely based on the notion that people possess human rights to life, liberty, security of person, “the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law” and others right because they are human beings in the first place and not citizens of a particular country. This is the reason of the universality of this declaration for it was written for each and every human being on the planet. Apart from the fact that the articles of the declaration proclaim the listed above basic human rights, it also deals with the prohibition of slavery and servitude, beards against torture, cruelty, arbitrary arresting, detention or exile. Article 11 states that “everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defense” and absolutely corresponds to the notion of the concept of dignity each human being is born with. The right to freedom of movement and residence, the right for education and work, the right to seek asylum from persecution, the right to have an nationality, the right to found a family, the right to have private property, the freedom of thought, opinion, conscience and religion - all the points from this list are essential and integral rights of every individual. Neglecting these rights and freedoms goes against the true nature of humanism and always leads to barbarous act that fills with indignation the conscience of humanity. The 30 articles of the declaration are aimed to create a world in which people will have the freedom of speech and opinion, will be free from fear and promote an active aspiration for a better world. The declaration contains all these rights as all of them need a legal base to protect individuals from resorting to extreme measures, rebelling against tyranny or oppression and maintaining amiability between people belonging to diverse nations.

Conclusion
This declaration resembles the importance of the morality in the contemporary world, as human being can possibly be a subject of slavery for another human being. It goes without saying that all these rights are not preserved at all times but nevertheless declaration of human rights was the document that drew a big line between what is human and what is not. The WWII with all its horror indubitably predisposed the Assembly to protect people from the reiteration of the Nazi terror. This declaration is one of the most valuable ones adopted after the WWII and it converted into a moral guarantor of the fact that the world will respect the universal right of each man to be a human being with rights and freedoms that cannot be forgotten and destroyed. Each person’s dignity should never be humiliated just because it is a person. According to the articles each human being is a subject of high priority for each country and state and the declaration itself is a “standard” of justice and a kind of implementation of the law system into the everyday life of ordinary people. These rights and freedoms exist independently from the fact whether they are accepted or not and they have set a new epoch in the human history
